Kano court sentences a woman to 18 months in prison for defrauding her husband of 2 million naira (Details)

Elizabeth Gift received a sentence from a Kano State magistrates' court for defrauding her husband of N2,050,000 after he instructed her to deposit the funds in a bank.

Barrister Jamilu Abubakar, the prosecutor, told the court that the defendant was sent by her husband, Benefice, to deposit the specified amount in April. However, when she returned, she claimed that some people had used weapons to steal the money from her.

He said that the investigation showed that the money wasn't taken from her. Instead, it showed that she gave it to some people with the intention of making more money for them.

The offender entered a guilty plea.

She was given an 18-month prison sentence by Magistrate Halima Nasir, and she was also ordered to pay her husband N2,050,000.

However, the magistrate offered her the option of paying a fine of N50,000 for the 18 months in prison.
