The Eko and Apongbon bridges in Lagos State must now be repaired and reopened to traffic by July 15, according to a new deadline set by the Federal Government. In a visit with Channels television, an authority with the Government Regulator of Works in Lagos State, Mrs Olukorede Kesha, said a few fundamental fixes should finished before resume, to guarantee the strength of the foundation.
Because some of the materials for the Apongbon Bridge's repairs were used to begin the emergency repair of the Ijora Olopa section, the delivery date was extended to May 2023.
The 4.1-kilometer Eko Bridge connects Lagos Island to the mainland and, on the island's side, Apongbon. It had been undergoing gradual rehabilitation, but in February 2022, the contract for its complete maintenance was awarded.
