Benjamin Hundeyin, a spokesperson for the Lagos Police Department, made it clear that the incident took place in the state's Ishashi area, which he described as a cultist hotbed.

He added that because cultists use hard drugs, conducting a search on the young men and finding hard drugs on them necessitated a more in-depth investigation.

The video of the young man being bullied by police and prevented from making a phone call was deemed “malicious” by Hundeyin.

Hundeyin explained that the young man was prevented from making a call because he could have alerted his "gang members," and that the police were only trying to prevent evidence from being destroyed.

Additionally, he said that the young man was resisting arrest.
