Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali, has inaugurated the first cargo movement on the Lagos-Ibadan rail corridor during his official tour.
The tour started at the Ebute Meta station, proceeded to Apapa for the launch, and continued to Ibadan along the 157 km rail corridor.
Three coaches, consisting of 30 wagons, were loaded for the inaugural freight movement.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) plans to begin with three coaches per day and has the capacity to increase the numbers.
This initiative aims to alleviate congestion at the Apapa port, which handles a significant portion of Nigeria's exports and imports in Q1'22 (92.28% of exports and 60.77% of imports).
