Despite removing subsidies and devaluing the naira, the Nigerian federal government is planning to increase the salaries of elected politicians by 114%.
The RMAFC has urged the 36 State Houses of Assembly to expedite their efforts to amend relevant laws to allow for an upward review of political, judicial, and public officer compensation packages.
At the presentation of reports on the reviewed compensation package to Kebbi State governor Dr. Nasir Idris on Tuesday in Burnin Kebbi, the call was made by Muhammadu Shehu, Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the State Houses of Assembly's efforts will make it possible to begin implementing the reviewed compensation packages for political, public, and judicial officers.
During a courtesy visit to the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, the RMAFC chairman, represented by Kebbi State native Federal Commissioner Rakiya Tanko-Ayuba, presented the report to the governor.
