According to The PUNCH's findings, housing allowances for National Assembly members may cost the nation approximately N5.87 billion annually.
In four years, the Federal Government will spend N23.48 billion on the accommodation of lawmakers with the annual allocation of N5.87 billion.
The allowances are calculated using information gathered from a document that can be found on the Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Allocation Commission's website.
Accommodation (200 percent of base salary), household staff (75% of base salary), utilities (30 percent of base salary), housekeeping (5% of base salary), wardrobe (25% of base salary), and furniture (300 percent of base salary) are all included.
Additionally, while members of the National Assembly do not receive a furniture allowance, public office holders typically receive it once every four years.
The Senators' housing allowances will cost approximately N1.38 billion annually out of the total amount.
The RMAFC did not disclose the amount for the Senate President and Deputy Senate President. As a result, the sum only covers the 107 senators' allowances.
According to the breakdown, N4.05 million was allocated for housing, N1.52 million for household staff, N607,920 for utilities, N101,320 for housekeeping, N506,600 for wardrobe allowance, and N6.08 million for furniture allowance.
Each year, members of the House of Representatives will receive housing allowances worth N4.49 billion.
The RMAFC did not disclose the amount for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker. In addition, Isma'ila Maihanchi, the member-elect of the House of Representatives who represented the federal constituency of Jalingo/Yorro/Zing in Taraba, is said to have passed away. In addition, Femi Gbajabiamila, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, left the 10th House to become President Bola Tinubu's chief of staff. As a result, the sum only covers the allowances of the 356 members of the House of Representatives.
