The third bid from the Red Devils was £50 million plus £5 million in add-ons for Mason Mount, which Chelsea rejected.

Chelsea has offered to meet with United in person to try to reach a positive agreement and made a counter-proposal of £58 million, including £7 million in add-ons.

The 24-year-old last played for the West Londoners on April 18, when they lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinals. He suffered a hip injury, which ended his season prematurely as his team finished 12th in the league standings.

As England faced Malta and North Macedonia this month, Mount was also unable to be selected for European qualifiers. As a result, Gareth Southgate was able to use Trent Alexander-Arnold in his midfield alongside Declan Rice and Jordan Henderson in a more experimental manner.

Even though Mount has one year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge and wants to move to Erik ten Hag's team, Chelsea want to get their money's worth for the academy graduate. Mount has one year left on his contract.

Given that United had been warned that their third bid would be their last before moving on to other targets, it is now unknown how they will respond.

United improved on their second £45 million plus £5 million offer with the third offer, which saw them increase their initial £40 million bid by £15 million. However, United is still £10 million short of Chelsea's revised value of £65 million.

If Mount were to join United, Chelsea would be on track to sell three key players to three rivals in the Premier League.

Kai Havertz is finishing up his move to Arsenal, which is worth just over £65 million, while midfielder Mateo Kovacic is undergoing medical tests ahead of his £30 million move to Manchester City.

Allowing three stars to join their rivals would be seen as a risk, even though Chelsea needs to sell players.

Since making his first-team debut in 2019, Mount has made 195 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 33 goals and contributing significantly to their 2021 Champions League success.

He has also represented England 36 times and won the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup with Chelsea.
